Althea J. Brooks
Dayton – Althea J. Brooks, 92, of Dayton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Buffalo General Hospital.
She was born on March 18, 1931 in Gowanda, daughter of the late LeRoy and Dorothy (Leitz) Gabel. She attended Gowanda High School, class of 1948, and married Robert Brooks on March 10, 1951, who predeceased her in November of 1993.
Althea was a member of the Collins Center Seniors, Gowanda Moose Club, and Slovenian Club. She also attended and was a member of the Gowanda Free Methodist Church. She retired as head account clerk from JN Adams Dev. Center with 43 years of service.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by a son, Gregory (Janet) Brooks of Rochester, daughter, Cathlene Brooks of Delaware, as well as brother, Dan (Beverly) Gabel, brother-in-law, Robert Pine, grandchildren Molly (Matt) Davis, Kelly Brooks, great grandchildren Madelyn and Aubrey Davis, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Althea is predeceased by sister, Norma Pine.
Friends may call on Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 12 pm Noon to 1 pm from Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 105 East Main St. in Gowanda.
Funeral services will immediately follow at 1 pm from the funeral home.
Burial will be in Jolls Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Gowanda Free Methodist Church.
