OBSERVER Staff Report
ALLEGANY — Not quite two years ago, Southwestern’s Reece Beaver was selected the OBSERVER/Post-Journal girls basketball Player of the Year.
The headline for the story that April day in 2022 read: “Beaver’s fourth season for Trojans is best yet.”
Well, let’s just say what she’s done so far in her sixth varsity campaign places her in some rarefied air.
How about all by herself?
Now a senior, Beaver scored 28 points Thursday night to lead Southwestern (12-6, 12-3) to a 69-31 victory over Allegany-Limestone (10-7, 8-6) in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West game at Allegany-Limestone High School. Not only did the Trojans’ win clinch them at least a tie for the division title, but Beaver also eclipsed the Chautauqua County girls scoring record after making a steal, dribbling the length of the court and converting a left-handed layup with 2:54 remaining in the third quarter to break the mark previously held by Silver Creek’s Abby Rice, who finished her career with 2,232 points.
Now with 2,243 career points, Beaver stands alone atop the girls county scoring list, an accomplishment that was recognized by the public-address announcer at the completion of the third period.
In addition to her points milestone, Beaver also collected eight assists, eight steals and four rebounds last night. The Daemen University-bound guard scored 17 points in the first quarter when Southwestern opened up a 37-18 lead.
Beaver was joined in double figures by Bella Sirianni, who scored 14 points to go along with six assists and six rebounds. Madi McIntyre collected seven rebounds and Ellie Pearson had six.
Leading the way for the Gators was Serena Frederick with 15 points.

The Eagles (3-15, 2-9) led 23-21 at halftime, but the Red Dragons (12-5, 6-5) outscored them 11-1 in the third quarter to take control.
Elise Riedesel led Chautauqua Lake with 16 points and nine rebounds; Kaylee Tarr had 10 points and four steals; and Quinn Putney had six rebounds and four steals.

FREWSBURG — Paige Whippo scored a career-high 12 points on Senior Night as Frewsburg clinched at least a share of the league title with an 80-37 Division 1 East victory over Cassadaga Valley.
Whippo also had eight rebounds and two assists, while Gracie Conlan — the Bears’ other senior — had 6 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals.
Jadyn Trocki had 19 points, eight steals and seven assists; Teghan Trocki had 11 points, four rebounds and four steals; and Taytum Jimerson had 10 points, seven assists and five steals for Frewsburg (17-2, 9-0), which led 46-15 at halftime.

CLYMER — Westfield led 20-9 at halftime and held off Clymer for a 37-33 Division 2 West victory, handing the Pirates their first league loss of the season.
Clymer made it a one-possession game during the second half, but could never even the score.
Tanleigh Bestine led the Wolverines (13-5, 7-3) with 25 points to become the school’s single-season scoring leader with 442. She surpassed Amy Bertrando’s old mark of 441 points. Bestine also grabbed 10 rebounds Thursday.
Alexys Neckers paced the Pirates (15-3, 10-1) with 19 points to go along with four rebounds and three steals, while Elli Bodamer had 9 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

FREWSBURG — Paige Whippo scored a career-high 12 points on Senior Night as Frewsburg clinched at least a share of the league title with an 80-37 Division 1 East victory over Cassadaga Valley.
Whippo also had eight rebounds and two assists, while Gracie Conlan — the Bears’ other senior — had 6 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals.
Jadyn Trocki had 19 points, eight steals and seven assists; Teghan Trocki had 11 points, four rebounds and four steals; and Taytum Jimerson had 10 points, seven assists and five steals for Frewsburg (17-2, 9-0), which led 46-15 at halftime.

BESTINE SETS WESTFIELD RECORD
CLYMER — Westfield led 20-9 at halftime and held off Clymer for a 37-33 Division 2 West victory, handing the Pirates their first league loss of the season.
Clymer made it a one-possession game during the second half, but could never even the score.
Tanleigh Bestine led the Wolverines (13-5, 7-3) with 25 points to become the school’s single-season scoring leader with 442. She surpassed Amy Bertrando’s old mark of 441 points. Bestine also grabbed 10 rebounds Thursday.
Alexys Neckers paced the Pirates (15-3, 10-1) with 19 points to go along with four rebounds and three steals, while Elli Bodamer had 9 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
