MOUNDSVILLE – The Marshall County Chamber of Commerce Business and Health Expo continues Saturday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Moundsville Center.
The event features booths set up by dozens of businesses, contractors, organizations, health care providers and more at the center, which is located inside the former Moundsville Penitentiary.
There is no fee to enter. Concession food is for sale on site. Vendors are on hand to tell people about their offerings with many handing out free trinkets, memorabilia, health screenings and more.
One booth set up by the city of Moundsville even features games such as basketball and treats like popcorn.
Scott Reager, executive director of the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce, said this is the 19th year for the expo.
“This is a showcase of the businesses and services in Marshall County,” Reager said. “We also have different characters coming in, Spider-Man and Disney characters. We will have giveaways and door prizes.”
During the ribbon cutting ceremony held Friday, Marshall County Commission President Mike Ferro said the commission is supportive of small business in the county. He noted last year the commission allocated about $1 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act money to help county businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible businesses could receive up to $20,000 in grant money, he said.
Nurse Melissa Burkett, a Women of Impact nominee representing WVU Medicine, was designated as the ribbon cutter for the ceremony. She said for the past month she and others have been promoting women’s health, stroke awareness, AED use and more. They have been raising money for the American Heart Association, too.
