Is your old Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC getting slow? Here’s how to regain some performance and make your PC a bit more responsive by disabling animation effects.
Microsoft has packed Windows 10 and Windows 11 with a ton of animations that make it look and feel modern. However, these animations can be taxing, especially if you are using an old PC with a hard disk.
While these animations are only visible when you open a new window, close an app or click on the start button, they may be hogging up precious resources, making the overall user experience sluggish at times. If you have a dated PC running on Windows 10 or Windows 11 and want to boost performance, here’s how to do so by getting rid of the animation effects.

How to disable animation effects on Windows
1. Right-click on the start menu and select the option named ‘System’.
2. In the window that loads, find an option named ‘Advanced System Settings’ under ‘Related Settings’ on the right side of the screen.
3. In the small pop-up window that appears, open the ‘Advanced’ tab and proceed to click the ‘Settings’ button.
4. Once done, navigate to the ‘Visual Effects ‘ in the window that appears and choose ‘Custom’.
5. Now, untick the option named ‘Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing” and hit the ‘Apply’ button.
If your system doesn’t feel more snappy, you may want to disable several animation effects to speed it up. However, doing so may not make the operating system less visually appealing.
Note: These steps apply to both Windows 10 and Windows 11 and may also work with previous versions of Windows.
