Patriots and Broncos teams coming off losses to playoff contenders will face off in a Christmas Eve showdown Sunday night.
Week 16’s Sunday night action will take place in a contest between the Patriots (3-11) and the Broncos (7-7).
New England played the Chiefs tough but lost at home to fall to 3-11 … and improve their chances at landing the No. 1 pick in next year’s draft. Denver (7-7) will aim to get back to the right side of the win column after getting blown out by the Lions in an absolutely abysmal offensive performance.
Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has seemed to be experiencing a bit of a resurgence in his first year playing under head coach Sean Payton, but that wasn’t reflected in his latest showing as Wilson and the offense sputtered.
He’ll have a chance to bounce back on Sunday evening, though it’s important to note he’ll be going up against a Patriots defense whose level of defensive performance far exceeds its offensive one — which ranks 28th in the league among all of the NFL’s offenses as the Patriots have failed to find much of any spark and have struggled with consistency at quarterback.
In total defense, New England sits at No. 8, allowing an average of 21.4 points per game and an average of 308.3 yards per contest.
Looking at the all-time series between the two teams, Denver has the edge as the Broncos are currently 27-22 against the Patriots. This marks the first meeting between the two teams since Oct. 18, 2020 when Denver got the 18-12 win.
