Jamestown High School students were taken into custody Tuesday after a physical altercation broke out in the cafeteria.

Police from several agencies were summoned to the East Second Street high school around 11 a.m. for reports of a large fight. More than a dozen patrol cars could be seen lined up in front of the building, with several officers posted to the front entrance.

In a statement, Jamestown Public Schools said the high school was put into a “hold in place” as a result of the altercation.

“Law enforcement partners from multiple agencies responded swiftly, taking the individuals involved into custody,” the district said. “All students involved have been removed from the school.”

JPS did not state how many students were involved in the fight.

“The school will seek the maximum disciplinary actions as allowed within district policies and state law,” JPS said. “Where appropriate, charges will be filed. The District is proud of the response of staff who intervened and students who immediately dispersed upon being asked, as well as the law enforcement agencies who provided immediate support.”
