BRIDGEPORT — Bridgeport High School officially inducted its newest members during the 88th annual National Honor Society Tapping Ceremony on Friday.
The event was held in the cafetorium and two seniors and seven juniors have joined the organization, including Vanessa Mullen, McKayla Plants, Jasmine Gonzalez, Taya Cooper, Keara Handte, A.J. Gear, Xander Stauffer, Madison Marsh and Patricia Hall. In addition, current members DaVonte Smith, Jayla Finsley, Campbell Kropka, Abigail Howell and Maddie Matusik recognized an honorary member such as a teacher, family member or coach who has had a positive impact upon their lives.
Adviser Ashley Krieger said juniors and seniors must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and complete 15 or more community service hours to qualify.
The students’ applications are then reviewed by a faculty council, which carefully evaluates the students using a rubric to determine if they uphold the four NHS pillars of character, service, leadership and scholarship.
The National Honor Society is a prestigious, internationally recognized organization that was established in March of 1921.
Their website includes excellent historical information, including a list of famous NHS members. It also offers students various resources such as opportunities to participate in leadership conferences and available scholarships.
