The money will go towards projects like public lighting and community halls
A number Kilkenny community and sports initiatives are set to get funding under ‘Our Rural Future’
A variety of community and sporting projects throughout Co Kilkenny have been chosen to get a funding boost this year.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys announced a significant €120,553 injection of funds to support a range of Kilkenny initiatives.
From that fund, Kilkenny County Council supported by Coolagh Community Group will receive €45,000.
Kilkenny County Council Upgrade Public Lighting Mukalee project will get €24,750.
Galmoy Community Hall will get €30,015 and Windgap Tidy Towns will be awarded €20,788.
This funding is part of the Government’s ‘Our Rural Future’ initiative and underscores a comittment to transforming rural towns and villages into vibrant, sustainable hubs.
Nationwide, the projects that are set to benefit from this support include astro-turf pitches, playgrounds, sensory gardens, walking tracks, nature trails, outdoor performance spaces, and community cafes.
Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Councillor Michael Doyle explained the funding will make a visible impact on Kilkenny’s local communities, by supporting projects that improve recreational and social spaces in the county.
“This funding is a further commitment and investment from the Government in supporting rural Ireland. It is a boost for rural communities and sports facilities in County Kilkenny, improving the overall quality of life.”
This announcement builds upon the €174,916 grant announced in December 2023 for County Kilkenny under the CLÁR programme. Recipients of this funding included Tullogher Rosbercon GAA Club, Muckalee Football Club, Kilmoganny GAA Club, and St. Martin’s GAA Club, Coon.
