Jim Harbaugh has second interview with Falcons

Jim Harbaugh and the Atlanta Falcons will reportedly meet Wednesday to conduct a second interview together, a little more than a week after their first meeting. On Tuesday, the Falcons announced that they’d interviewed Harbaugh on social media.

This came only a few days after Harbaugh met with the Los Angeles Chargers a week after leading the University of Michigan to victory in the championship of the College Football Playoff. All this said, Harbaugh has not committed to returning to the NFL yet. The 60-year-old remains engaged in contract talks with Michigan, Yahoo Sports’ Dan Wetzel reported Tuesday.

Harbaugh hasn’t coached in the NFL since 2014, when he and the San Francisco 49ers mutually parted ways following an 8-8 season. He has been at Michigan since 2015 and is completely beloved there, despite (or perhaps because of) the sign-stealing scandal earlier this season. The Chargers desperately need a coach with a proven pedigree to come into the organization. Harbaugh is a great candidate, which is why he will have his pick among the six NFL head-coaching vacancies, in addition to his home in the NCAA.

Meanwhile on Monday, the Panthers announced the hiring of Dan Morgan as their new general manager/president of football operations. Morgan, a former Panthers linebacker, has served as the team’s assistant GM since 2021.

On Sunday, the Philadelphia EaglesNick Sirianni reportedly fired defensive coordinator Sean Desai, an expected move as a staff shakeup was inevitable after Philly’s playoff collapse.

The Falcons’ extension of a second interview to Harbaugh comes only two days after former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick completed his second meeting with Atlanta on Friday.

It’s the only organization that Belichick has reportedly met with since splitting with the Patriots last week after 24 seasons, ending a legendary campaign with the franchise. Since he didn’t retire, options for his next step are endless. Head coach Arthur Smith was fired after the team’s season ended earlier this month.
