Details about workplace safety will be discussed Feb. 6 during the 2024 Safety Seminar hosted by the Northwest Indiana Business RoundTable (NWIBRT), according to a release.

Each of the presenting companies is a former winner of NWIBRT’s Innovation Award, which is presented during the annual Construction Awards Banquet, the release said. The award is only given to companies that have developed new safety initiatives, processes or procedures that creatively solve industry safety challenges and problems.

Save the Dunes and 10 partner organizations from Indiana and Illinois, known as the Calumet Land Conservation Partnership (CLCP), received the Force of Nature Award Jan. 17 from the Chicago Wilderness Alliance at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, a release said.

Nominated by their peers, the Force of Nature Award winners share a passion for the environment and a determination to improve their communities, the release said. Save the Dunes and the CLCP group were nominated for their Conservation Action Planning in the Calumet Region project, which is a collaborative approach for protecting nature in the bi-state region.

CLCP partners include Save the Dunes, Shirley Heinze Land Trust, The Nature Conservancy, Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, National Parks Conservation Association, Audubon Great Lakes, Openlands, Metropolitan Planning Council, The Wetlands Initiative, The Field Museum and the Northwest Indiana Urban Waters Federal Partnership, the release said.

FAITH CDC (Families Anchored in Total Harmony Inc.) announced recently that enrollment is underway for the Food Is Medicine (FFIM) program, according to a release.

The program provides Northwest Indiana residents with free produce and/or diet-specific meals every week for 6 months, the release said. Currently, individuals diagnosed with diabetes, coronary artery disease and gastrointestinal disorders are being accepted. A referral from the primary care physician is required, the release said.

The program takes place at 656 Carolina St. in Gary, and is administered in partnership with Methodist Hospitals along with local physicians and farmers. There are a total of 120 slots available, the release said.

Dr. Kimberland Anderson is seeing patients at the Franciscan Physician Network Family Medicine St. John office at 8345 Wicker Ave., according to a release.

Franciscan Physician Network Director of Operations Rhonda Volk said all existing appointments will automatically be moved to the new location, the release said. She completed medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago and completed her residency at Advocate Christ Family Medicine in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
