Arsenal take on Liverpool in the third round of the FA Cup at Emirates Stadium on Sunday, January 7.
Despite their ongoing battle in the Premier League title race, today serves as a pivotal moment for both teams to preserve their hopes of securing silverware this season.
No side has won the FA Cup more than Arsenal as they’re the only team to win it 14 times. However, Liverpool have also been successful in this competition in the past, winning eight titles in their storied history.
The two rivals battled out a 1-1 draw at Anfield just over two weeks ago but the form of the two sides since is rather contrasting. Mikel Arteta’s men suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of West Ham and Fulham, whereas Jurgen Klopp’s Reds took maximum points against Burnley and Newcastle United.

Arsenal vs Liverpool live updates, highlights from FA Cup Third Round
27th minute: It’s another great move from Arsenal and Saka’s shot is hit into the ground which kills its speed on its way into Alisson’s hands.
22nd minute: Elliott’s corner is met by Nunez but he can’t redirect the header goalwards. He could have done better there.
17th minute: The Reds have appeared to weather the storm as the game’s tempo now eases slightly. However, Arsenal are still enjoying the majority of possession.
11th minute: Liverpool are riding their luck here but again Arsenal cannot get the ball over the line. Odegaard smacks the bar and the follow-up shot is well blocked by Alexander-Arnold.
8th minute: Liverpool are all over the shop defensively. Arsenal could really do with taking advantage of their bright start.
7th minute: It’s another opportunity for Nelson. This time Odegaard cuts the ball back and he can’t quite make good enough contact but it takes a deflection and heads out for a corner.
3rd minute: What a chance for Reiss Nelson! Ramsdale picks him out beautifully from deep in between the full-back and centre-half. Nelson takes it around Alisson but his touch forces him wide and he can only hit the side-netting.

1 hour 30 mins until kickoff: As we wait for team news to be announced, we know that Gabriel Jesus is absent from the Arsenal squad today due to a knee injury. It’s been described as “minor” and “not serious”.
This season aside, Gabriel Jesus has missed 10 games on average per campaign in England through injury. This is despite being a rotational option at City.
As a starter at Arsenal he missed 17 games last season and 11 already this season.
