TRIADELPHIA — Five of the 32 teams entered in the 33rd annual Wheeling Park Duals wrestling tournament managed to make it through the grueling first day at The Highlands Sports Complex with perfect 5-0 records, among them was defending champion University.
The talented Hawks were the lone team to finish spotless in the Blue Division’s Pool C. They are scheduled to face Clermont N.E. and Indian Creek early today before the placement rounds begin at 1 p.m.
Also going unscathed were former champion Steubenville and Beckley Woodrow Wilson (Red Division Pool B), Peters Township, Pa. (Red Division, Pool A and Applecreek Waynedale (Blue Division Pool D). Steubenville and Beckley Woodrow Wilson meet today at 11:45.
Locally, Wheeling Park went 3-2; Oak Glen (3-2); East LIverpool (2-3), Indian Creek (2-3), Brooke (1-4), John Marshall (1-4), Southern Local (1-4); and Shenandoah (0-5).
Action resumes today at 9 a.m., with the championship match starting at approximately 3:30 p.m.
