Students in the culinary arts program at E2CCB Loguidice Educational Center prepare Italian Wedding soup for Empty Bowls.

The culinary arts program at the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES Loguidice Educational Center contributed almost 60 gallons of soup for the Empty Bowls Project fundraiser held at Wheelock Primary School. Soups included Italian wedding, potato leek and a vegetarian option with minestrone.

Chef David Caccamise organized the process of getting the soup made and delivered to the fundraiser.

With 35 students between his junior and senior classes, Caccamise was excited to allow students to contribute to the community.

“My students help by preparing the soup and donating their time,” he said. “It’s good for the kids to take part in this every year.”

Caccamise has been participating in the Empty Bowls Project for over 15 years. He and his students have volunteered since the fundraiser was held at Barker Commons in Fredonia. He has continued contributing to the cause even when he couldn’t serve soup to the public because of COVID-19 guidelines.

Proceeds from Empty Bowls will be distributed to food pantries all throughout Chautauqua County.
