Scottie Scheffler looks to exact revenge for his prior shortcomings at the Hero World Challenge after finishing runner-up at this tournament the past two years. Heading into the deciding final round with a three-stroke lead over Matt Fitzpatrick at 16 under, the world No. 1 has the entirety of his game working in unison, which spells trouble for the star-studded pursuing cast.
Making putts with consistency, Scheffler has put his newfound confidence on the greens on full display. Coupled with his ever-reliable ball striking, the Texan’s game looks as sharp and chiseled as ever. Expanding his lead to as many as five late Saturday, Scheffler tripped up on the par-4 finisher and may have given hope to the rest of the field.
Fitzpatrick will join the top player in the game in the final pair Sunday, and will attempt to get the better of him just as he did in the 2022 U.S. Open. Two-time major champion Justin Thomas is within reach as well at 11 under, and could make a charge himself should his putter cooperate.
Meanwhile, Tiger Woods aims to card his third straight under-par round after opening his tournament with rounds of 75-70-71. At even par, he’s off early alongside Sam Burns and has eyes on breaking 70 for the first time since the third round of the 2023 Genesis Invitational.
