When you walk into Coonan’s Irish Hub, the local high school decor is everywhere you look.
That’s because owner Kim Coonan said he wanted to support the schools and bring the community into the restaurant when the business opened nearly 13 years ago.
Coonan’s Irish Hub opened in 2011 and is located at 1004 N. Johnson St. in Bay City.
“We had no idea it was going to be as successful as this,” Coonan said. “We have a lot of great clientele, and people come from all over.”
Couple turns love of vintage thrifting into curated Bay City clothing shop
Bay City has a new place where vintage clothing lovers can find unique, hand-curated, deep-cleaned pieces to add to their wardrobe.
Nick DeyArmond and Angela Napolitano are the owners of Bonejacked Vintage Apparel, located at 512 Columbus Ave.
DeyArmond and Napolitano met in 2012 through mutual friends at Duso’s Bar, 604 E. Midland St. in Bay City.
This ‘hidden gem’ in downtown Bay City offers upscale dining and a casual atmosphere
Downtown Bay City offers up several dining options, but there’s one the community may forget about, even though it’s in one of the biggest buildings.
The Riverfront Grille Restaurant & Lounge is located at 1 Wenonah Park Place inside Bay City’s DoubleTree by Hilton.
Riverfront Grille offers a lounge area with a bar and televisions, plus a separate, larger dining room.
Saginaw’s Santa’s Workshop getting ready to bring Christmas joy to families in need
Saginaw’s Santa’s Workshop is opening its doors once again this December, bringing Christmas joy, gifts and visits with Saint Nick to families in need.
Every year at Christmastime, Charlie Haddad transforms his seasonal fireworks store, located at 1810 Court St., into “Santa’s Workshop” for this free holiday event.
This year, the event is scheduled to take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20. Families in need can apply to receive free gifts for children, and donors can give gifts right up until the event.
“It’s a beautiful event. So many kids come out,” Haddad said, noting that Saginaw Mayor Brenda Moore, law enforcement officials, and other local officials and community leaders also attend. “It’s a great event for the kids.”
What’s that? A former Midland Mall tenant is making a comeback
The Midland Mall is gaining a new — old — tenant.
Yogurt Loft is reopening at the mall, located at 6800 Eastman Ave., nearly four years after closing. Midland Mall Executive Assistant Jaylie Dice said this is further evidence of the mall’s revival.
Downtown Saginaw restaurant announces temporary closure, plans to come back strong
Valerie’s Downtown, a Washington Avenue eatery known for Mexican cuisine and sandwiches, is temporarily closed.
The restaurant is located at 216 S. Washington Ave. in downtown Saginaw, formerly Wally’s. Restaurant owner Juliana Stricker opened the business in 2019.
