— Montevideo business owner Scott Van Binsbergen announced Feb. 25 that he is seeking the Republican endorsement for the Minnesota House 16A seat.
“Minnesota is at a fork in the road. One path continues the Democrats’ anti-rural policies, wasteful spending, rampant inflation and radical ideologies. The other path on which my campaign will be run is a return to the commonsense, time-tested conservative rural principles that bring economic prosperity, job creation, stronger main streets, respect for traditional moral values and the rule of law back to our state,” stated Van Binsbergen in a news release announcing his bid.
Van Binsbergen is president of Van Binsbergen & Associates, which employs more than 100 people in five states. He is a past recipient of the Southwest Minnesota Entrepreneur of the Year award. In his announcement, he points to job creation and his experience in economic development, real estate, insurance, agriculture, banking and health care.
He said his priorities include “pushing back against the overwhelming influence of the growing hard left ideology as he works to protect your traditional values.”
He has served on many local boards including the Montevideo Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Kiwanis and Hope Reformed Church, and is a member of the West Central Association of Realtors.
He has been appointed by three different Minnesota governors to the Minnesota Board of Accountancy, and is a former director of the boards for Klein Bank and Old National Bank in Montevideo.
Van Binsbergen and his wife, Clarissa, have been married 28 years and have three children: Whitney, Andrew and Adam. Their family resides in Montevideo.
Van Binsbergen is the second candidate to challenge Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Acton Township, for the Republican endorsement. Steve Schmitt, a Meeker County commissioner and small business owner in Eden Valley, announced his candidacy on Feb. 4. Urdahl announced his re-election campaign on Jan. 29.
District 16A includes nearly all of Chippewa County, all of Renville County, southeast Kandiyohi County and western Meeker County.
