Two-time state champion Philip Barbour faces Winfield today in Class AA quarterfinal action in Charleston.
CHARLESTON — Philip Barbour begins its quest for a third straight Class AA title today at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
The Lady Colts of coach Heather Halfin bring a 42-9-7 mark into the tourney, including going 14-0 in Big 10 Conference play.
Philip Barbour is the third seed and faces No. 6 Winfield (28-21-1) this afternoon in the quarterfinals.
The match will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the No. 2 Shady Spring vs. No. 7 Liberty-Harrison contest set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
The other quarterfinal matchups are No. 4 Herbert Hoover vs. No. 5 Wayne and No. 1 Oak Glen vs. No. 8 Weir.
The semifinals begin at 6:30 p.m. today, with the title game set for 11 a.m. Thursday.
Junior MacKenna Halfin leads the Lady Colts with 514 kills, followed by senior Katie Kennedy with 210, freshman Izzy Knotts with 186 and senior Natatlie Dumire with 155.
Junior Averi McDaniel has recorded a team-high 70 ace serves and Kennedy tops the team with 560 assists.
Knotts is the team leader in blocks with 106, while Halfin and senior Jorjalynn Ward have 420 and 417 digs, respectively.
Quarterfinal matchups in Class A set for today include No. 4 East Hardy vs. No. 5 Ritchie County, No. 1 Buffalo vs. No. 8 Pendleton County, No. 2 Williamstown vs. No. 7 Wirt County and No. 3 James Monroe vs. No. 6 Greenbrier West.
Class AAA quarterfinal pairings for today are No. 4 Bridgeport vs. No. 5 Woodrow Wilson, No. 1 Morgantown vs. No. 8 Parkersburg South, No. 2 Hedgesville vs. No. 7 Hurricane and No. 3 Musselman vs. No. 6 George Washington.
