SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the opening of both the Left Bank Market and a new boutique shop, Bloom, on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 5 p.m.

The public and area business members are invited to attend and celebrate the recent openings of both shops. The ribbon cutting will begin at Bloom at 39 Broadway at 5 p.m. and then migrate across the street to Left Bank Market at 36 Broadway in Saranac Lake.

Bloom, owned and operated by Valerie Pawlewicz, is a women’s clothing and accessories boutique. Pawlewicz grew up in Plattsburgh, but moved away before high school, spending the greater part of her life studying, living and working in the Washington, D.C. and Annapolis, Maryland areas. Pawlewicz and her pickleball-playing husband, Leo Pickens, regularly visited family in the North Country for the past 20 years, but only transferred their permanent residence to the Adirondacks in 2017.

“I am excited to be part of the ‘re-blooming’ of downtown Saranac Lake — truly the heart of the Adirondacks,” said Pawlewicz about opening a boutique on Broadway. “Like Georgeanne Gaffney Studio, TF Finnegan’s, Academy and Main and others, Bloom will offer select women’s clothing and accessories. But my goal is having Bloom dovetail, not overlap, with the high-quality offerings already available at established downtown businesses.”

Left Bank Market opened its doors on Sept. 1 and is located adjacent to the Left Bank Cafe. The market offers specialty products that are often served in the cafe and are hard to find in area grocery stores. Specialties include meats, spreads, pastas, oils, condiments and fresh-baked croissants. Left Bank Market is owned and operated by Chef Jarrad Lang and Brianna Scanlon and is open Thursday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lang, a native to the Adirondacks, attended Paul Smith’s College for culinary arts, and worked and trained in France and Boston. He returned to Saranac Lake and worked in many local restaurants and resorts over the past 23 years, including the Hotel Saranac in the early 2000s and most recently as the executive chef of the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid. Lang is excited to be back working in Saranac Lake at the newly reopened Left Bank Cafe. Scanlon is from central New York, attended Paul Smith’s for culinary arts and stayed in the area.

“We are excited to celebrate the opening of both Bloom and Left Bank Market. This ribbon cutting is an excellent way to kick-off the holiday shopping season and highlight our Support Local campaign,” said Chamber Executive Director Rachel Karp. “Valerie, Jarrad, and Brianna are active supporters of our Saranac Lake community and now this is our opportunity to support them and encourage residents and visitors to shop at these new shops.”

The ribbon cuttings begin at 5 p.m. For questions or more information, call 518-891-1990 or visit www.slareachamber.org/events.
