Rescuers on Wednesday continued to search for a 42-year-old California man who went missing off the coast of Kapalua on Monday.

The Maui Fire Department said Wednesday afternoon that search operations will be maintained until nightfall with searches resuming at daybreak today if the victim remains missing.

At 3:38 p.m. Monday, crews responded to reports of a swimmer who had been washed out in rough conditions after jumping from the rocks and into the ocean in the Cliff House area of Kapalua.

Crews have inserted rescue swimmers and conducted searches by air and shoreline.

Maui Fire Department crews along with Ocean Safety Officers, MFD’s Air One helicopter and the U.S. Coast Guard have participated in the search.
