Tech journalist Etherington laid off from TechCrunch

Darrell Etherington

Darrell Etherington, who has been with tech news site TechCrunch three different times in the past decade, has been laid off.

In his most recent stint, Etherington had been editor at large, managing editor, news editor, science editor and a writer.

He was also at TechCrunch from 2012 to 2015 and 2016 to 2018. Between his TechCrunch stints, he was head of communications at Shopify and a public relations manager at Apple.

Etherington also worked at GigaOm covering Apple.

He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Windsor.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush is the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook “Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication” and “Thinking Things Over,” a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
