He focuses on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and how privacy concerns are reshaping technology regulations, among other topics. He has also covered cryptocurrencies and emerging digital economies.

Powers was previously a privacy reporter at CoinDesk. His writing about technology, policing and the military has appeared in Rolling Stone, the Wall Street Journal, CityLab, Mother Jones and Paste Magazine.

He is a graduate of Bard College and CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook “Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication” and “Thinking Things Over,” a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
