HAGERSTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) — For one young Hagerstown man, what started as a hobby and passion for video games, has become a business venture with great potential.
Breyon Hopkins asked himself how he can it make it his livelihood.
He developed a business plan for Never Bored Games at the Hagerstown Community College Center for Entrepreneurial Studies.
“I won the pitch competition at the David Fletcher Incubator Program,” Hopkins said. “They gave me mentors for a full year and an office to build my business plan.”
Through a City of Hagerstown grant, Hopkins set up shop for his business in a vacant downtown storefront located at 39 N. Potomac St.
“The city is taking care of the rent this first year,” said Ashlee Briddell, who is helping Hopkins with his venture.
Meanwhile, Hopkins’ business coach at the community college has cracked the whip.
“I asked him, ‘what’s going on?’ and he’s like ‘I’m putting out some social media posts.’ And I’m like, ‘what else?!” Justina Shaw exclaimed at the community college.
Shaw took Hopkins’ venture to a higher level.
“Just restructuring what a sales strategy should be, a marketing strategy, how to package things, how to understand the customer — we worked on all of this,” Shaw said.
Shaw matched Hopkins with some prominent local business leaders to mentor him.
“Every time Breyon met with them he implemented what they said he should do,” he said.
Shaw has no doubt Hopkins has what it takes to succeed in business.
As for Hopkins, he hopes his Hagerstown location is the first of several to come for the DMV area.
