PHILADELPHIA — The San Francisco 49ers overcame a slow start, but found a rhythm in the second quarter to own a 14-6 halftime lead over the Philadelphia Eagles. Christian McCaffrey had a 2-yard touchdown run with 38 seconds left in the half to put the 49ers up eight, capping a 10-play, 85-yard drive for San Francisco.
The 49ers had 21 plays for 173 yards and two touchdowns in their two second quarter possessions. The Eagles punted twice.
Brandon Aiyuk had the first touchdown for the 49ers, catching a 2-yard pass from Brock Purdy to put San Francisco up 7-6 with 7:10 left in the second quarter. The scoring play was under review as it appeared Aiyuk didn’t have full control of the ball he hit the ground, but the touchdown stood. The second-quarter response was massive for the 49ers, who had -6 yards after their first two possessions, which stood as their offensive output after the first quarter.
The Eagles had two opportunities to score touchdowns in the first quarter, but were held to two Jake Elliott field goals inside the red zone. Philadelphia built an early 6-0 lead after its first two possessions. The Eagles had just 22 total yards in the second quarter.
