The Duluth School District lost out in the fall on a referendum funding request for technology needs. The voters spoke, and the referendum did not pass.
Now, apparently, we need a do-over because the election result wasn’t to the district administration’s liking. A special election is scheduled for May 14.
Taxpayers will be on the hook for the expense of the special election, expected to be in excess of $100,000. The referendum request over a 10-year period is $52 million.
The district administration’s crystal ball can see the future out 10 years, apparently, regarding technology. Technology change moves so fast it is amazing that someone could forecast the future of technology out 120 months.
I notice the school district has an operational plan and strategic plan, both revisited every three years.
When it comes to asking for money, more time is better. Whether you are for or against the referendum, circle the date, more is better when it comes to voter turnout.
If the referendum passes, could the taxpayers ask for a do-over since the best of three elections might make good sense at that time?
